Road Trip: New England
April 24, 2022 - May 05, 2022
2022 Road Trip Summary
This vacation brought us to New England. All of it. I had a Mensa event - called Mind Games - to attend in Portland, ME (much like I attended in 2019 in Wadsworth, OH), so we made a road trip out of attending the event. Last time we made the roadtrip around the event. This time, we were already planning on doing New England, so just changed when in order to accomodate Mind Games. New England was originally planned for May 2020, but was canceled due to the virus. Then rescheduled for 2021. And canceled due to the virus. Again.
This trip was planned to do all the capitals of New England (in this order): Albany, NY;
Montpelier, VT; Augusta, ME; Concord, NH; Boston, MA; Providence, RI; and Hartford, CT.
This trip will bring us up to 21 capitols in total. We were in NINE states this trip, including our home state of Delaware.
The weather was generally acceptable. We went north and, of course, temperatures dropped some. Other than a couple days with temps in the high 30s, and an occasional rainshower, it wasn't that bad.
Trip statistics:
- 12 days and 11 nights.
- 1,858 miles driven - as the car sat on Friday and Saturday, we averaged 185.8 miles driven per day driving.
- Averaged 28.94 MPG for the entire trip.
- Walked at least 102.000 steps each (Steve uses a Samsung Fit2 and Linda uses a FitBit, and they don't track the exact same way).
- 1,562* pictures taken, and one lone video. Keep in mind that some of the pictures from the car are taken 1) at speed, 2) with the camera focusing on something [more] nearby than expected - like the dashboard, and or 3) quickly before the sight passed by [at speed...]
- 26 meals eaten (NOT incuding some "dinner-snacks" [such as bread, cheese, and wine, not a full meal])
- 5 exotic cars spotted: a Lambghini and Maserati, southern Westchester County, NY; a Viper, Taconic State Parkway, Putnam County, NY; a Ferrari on approach to Boston; and another Lamborghini in a parking garage in Boston.
- Generally, most drivers used their turn signals and were decent drivers. There was the occasional idiot doing 90+ in a Toyota Corrola or Honda Civic in a 55 or 65 MPH zone, but again, generally, not too many bad drivers.
*1,562 was the final count of pictures from the memory card that was downloaded to the laptop. There were some images that were either blurry or missed the mark altogether. Also, I usually take two pictures with the cell phone because there is no "preview" wherein the camera has a 5 second preview so the shot can be confirmed before taking it again if necessary.
NOTE: The images are toned, hued and adjusted for the settings on MY monitor. Your experience may vary slightly. If you are having difficulty seeing images and they seem "washed out", you may need to turn down the brightness on your monitor.
Most pictures now have a hover-over pop-up. If you see the thumbnail, hover-over it, and a larger version of the image will
appear in a window a little to the side. If you want to see an even BIGGER version of that image, you can either:
- left-click on it, look at it, and then click the browser back button
OR
- right-click on it, and select Open in new tab / window.
This site doesn't have all the details, but a sufficient amount to give you enough of an idea about our trip. And for us to remember the highlights when we read this chronicle next month, next year, or next decade.
