Road Trip: New England

Day 5: Thursday, April 28, 2022 - Bar Harbor, ME

Day's statistics:
Weather: Light rain
Steps: Steve 7,990; Linda 7,547
Drove: 374 miles

I was originally expecting to say that "the first thing we did after waking up was to see the sunrise." But since the previous night we checked, the weather forecast was "59% chance of rain". That doesn't mean "41% chance of clear skies". No, it means "100% chance of cloud with a 59% chance those clouds will produce precipitation." So we sadly decided to sleep in. Maybe some other time we'll have an opportunity to see the sunrise.
So... breakfast.
It wasn't a full buffet, but as close to it one could get. There were pre-made egg, cheese, and bacon sandwiches, oatmeal, mixed fruit, muffins, and a couple other items.
Our view during breakfast was the Gulf of Maine.

Much like every morning so far on this trip, we checked out, packed the car, and headed out.
But unlike any other morning so far, we weren't headed to a capitol. This morning our only goal was to head to Portland.
And similar to other trip segments, we chose the road less traveled. Rather than take i95 and drive fast[er], we took Route 1 along the coast. Another slower road that meandered along, going through some small towns, and overlooking some water.
Here are some shots from our meandering.

After we arrived in Portland, but before getting to our hotel, we stopped at Tomaso's Canteen for lunch.
We were getting ready to figure out how to pay at the kiosk, and I spied someone leaving a spot right in front of Tomaso's. I looped around the block, and had to pause for a delivery truck. It eventually moved and when we were able to proceed, I watched someone pull into the spot we were trying to get. Then I saw there was another free spot behind us, just a little further away. So we took it.
We went inside and had a seat. There were three seated at the bar, and us - but it was also 2:00 in the afternoon, so the real question is "why weren't those other people at work?!!?" The whole establishment only seated about three dozen. But it had five - yes FIVE - TV screens, all tuned to something different, too.
Linda ordered the grilled chicken Cesaer salad.

I had the buffalo chicken sandwich with fries.

Today was the start of Mind Games (MG). After eating our meal at Tomaso's, and headed over to the hotel.
For the next three nights, we were staying at the Double Tree in Portland.
After checking in, I made my way down to register for MG, and to start playing games!

I will talk more about Mind Games, if you are interested, in tomorrow's entry.

Fun fact: For most of the year, Cadillac Mountain is the first location to see the rising sun on the continental US.
