Road Trip: Charlotte, NC
Day 5: Friday, April 19, 2024 - Mind Games in Charlotte, NC
Day's statistics:
Weather: unknown - we never left the hotel
Steps: Steve 5,324; Linda 5,044
Travel: 0 miles
Rather than make our way to the hotel restaurant like we did yesterday, today we went to a ballroom in the back of the hotel where we
still had a full buffet breakfast, but not it included coffee and juices too.
We had eggs, sausage, and potatoes - though I had more than Linda did.
We sat alone for breakfast this morning.
I took my ID, clipboard, and paperwork with me so I could get right to game playing after eating.
It was still early - by MG participant standards - so I grabbed one of the solo games, "Legend of Yu", I was required to play and
began reading the directions, while sitting in the main ballroom.
It wasn't long before Matthew appeared, and so did Shannon and Ryan. I put the game I was playing back, and we grabbed
"Proliferation: the Game of Nuclear Strategy". We set it up, and played. After about an hour and half, we were done.
After we finished we decided to move back to the smaller room we were in yesterday because it was already getting a little loud, and the
room was probably only half full.
We either played as a large group, or split into smaller groups in order to play different games that different sets of us needed.
One game four of us played was called "Misfits: The Tactical Stacking Game". One component of game judging are the games' instructions,
and this game's instructions [essentially] stated "These instrucctions are only provided becuase they have to be. The regular game will
not contain any instructions." Umm... how does one know what to do with a box of shapes if there are no instructions? Any instructions
should at least say "This game is a free form game and you do whatever you want blah blah blah." Anyway, our team randomly split the pieces
amongst ourselves, and built this thing.
It didn't take long before it was already lunch time.
So we made the trip back to the far ballroom. Today's lunch was burgers - ham and veggie - with various toppings, and potato wedges.
I made a double burger and had a few wedges.
Linda had volunteered for another two hour shift in hospitality from 10:00 - 12:00, and was able to find something to nosh on.
After eating, our group returned to game playing.
Linda had another hospitality volunteer shift from 2:00 - 4:00.
I completely skipped dinner as I wasn't hungry - though they were serving meat and veggie lasagna.
By 10:00, again, I was done playing for the day, and now had 27 of the 30 required games played, and 2 more (for a total of 3) addiitonal
games completed.
Our room was decent and even had a balcony.
Though we were on the 17th floor, it was surprisingly noisy - but that was probably because of the highway below.
