Road Trip: South - inalnd trip
Day 2: Thursday, May 21, 2015 - Sanford, FL
Weather: Mid 80's. Sunny.
Steps: 6,461 (Steve), 4,852 (Linda)
Drove: 391 miles
Before arriving at our final destination, we had a continental breakfast on the train. We met another couple but this one was more interestiing than the first - this couple had an interesting story about their car being stolen from their property and the stupid theives not only left their IDs in their wrecked pick-up truck, they were nabbed by the police due to the owners' EZPass.
We arrived in Sanford about a half-hour late - approximately 17 hours after departing. Before we arrived, we were
able to view some of the scenery:
And our first photographicable palm trees:
It didn't take nearly as long to get our car this year as last time. We set-up the GPS and headed out. Our
first destination was the Hollerbach's Willow Tree Café. We had a
great lunch splitting a platter of three sausages - weisswurst, nűrnberger and bratwurst - with three sides -
gurkensalat (cucumber salad), potato pancakes and spätzle (egg noddles) with Rahm gravy (the apple sauce was
automatic). Linda enjoyed an ale and I water:
After eating, we walked to the Hollerbach Market to look at all the authentic German foods, beer and wine. We also wondered around the town of Sanford a little and went into a couple shops.
Our next destination was New Port Richie to visit our aunt and uncle (sorry the camera was not on auto focus). On the way over, we hit a brief and strong rainstorm in Orlando. That cleared and seemed to dry up within about 15 minutes.
We also came across this "questionable" temporary license plate (see the inset in the picture) - unless
this is how they issue them in Florida (which really wouldn't surprise me too much):
We snacked and chatted for about four hours before we had to leave to go to Tallahassee. We hit some bugs - OK,
a lot of bugs - while travelling primarily on Route 19 on route to the state capital (since we traveled at night, this
image is obviously from the next day):
We arrived at the city not long before midnight.
