Road Trip: South - i95 trip
Day 5: Monday, November 14, 2011 - Savannah, GA
Breakfast was great, again, and we packed and headed to Savannah, GA. It was our longest between-city travel at four and a half hours.
On the way to Savannah, we stopped on Saint Simmons Island.
Our destination: a restaurant called Southern Soul. It was
a little hard to find becaue the GPS was off a little. This time we have Guy Fieri to thank for the recommendation
(a la his "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives"
program). It was great Georgia barbeque - I had the beef brisket and Linda had the Bob Marley (a jerk chicken and black
bean wrap tht was so huge, someone else had to finish it... :-) ).
Linda's Bob Marley.
Steve's beef brisket.
After arriving at the
Baymont
Hotel and unpacking, we took the hotel's free shuttle into the city. It was a five or so minute ride
in. We walked along River Street, popped into some shops, and scoped out some architecture and monuments.
A lot of the shops and sights were closed, but we did manage to find some delectable pralines. After buying some, we made our way back to the hotel.
Because it was a little late and we had a fairly big lunch, we wound up just having cheese and crackers and wine for dinner. We bought the wine in the supermarket - something we can't do here in Delaware.
The hotel had all the amenities as the other, and was comfortable too.
