Road Trip: South - i95 trip
Day 6: Tuesday, November 15, 2011 - Savannah, GA
Breakfast was great, again (didn't I just say that?).
Today was another day of surprises. For Linda. This day, we were doing the "Old Town Trolly Tours". The tour allows you to get on and off the trolly at as many stops as you want. Each leg of the tour is narated and they talk about sites and such. There were a couple sights mentioned that were in movies.
The Forrest Gump bench (the below was in a museum but we did pass by the park that had the
original bench - but it was on the other side of the park).
A pub from a Julia Robert's movie.
From the movie Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil, in the first image, the white home on the right,
the second a home from the opening scene (we were told), and the last is a cafe.
The trolly makes a total of 15 stops - and you can disembark at any one of them. We started at the visitor's
center and the Savannah History Museum. Then, after getting on the trolly, we got off at and toured:
- The Juliette Gordan Low birthplace (Juliette is the founder of the Girl Scouts).
- The Andrew Low House (father-in-law of Juliet's husband).
These are the Juliette Gordan Low birthplace.
The Andrew Low house and courtyard (no pictures permitted inside).
The scenery of Savannah was great.
There were fountains and, even more so, monuments all over the place. I didn't capture them all...
The gate in front of this home is said to be a mini replica of the gates at Buckingham Palace.
The side and some stain glass of a church, and the steples of another.
In this shot, specifically notice the drain spout.
One of the stops we made was back at River Street. We had lunch at
Olympia Express
because we were a little tight on time. That was because we had 2:00
river boat cruise tickets. These are some shots from the riverboat.
Another riverboat (not the one we were on, but FROM the one we were one).
The Girl Waving statue is said to be dedicated to a girl / woman that waved to ships coming into port waiting for her love to arrive.
She waved for forty-six years. The second image is a zoom-in on the statue of the first.
The Olympic Torch is from the local Olympic village when the Olympics were held in Atlanta and the rowing events were held in
Savannah on the river. The second image is a zoom-in on the torch.
After the cruise we visited City Hall.
The Cotton Exchange
Then we did a little more on the trolly and made our way back to the hotel. We headed out for a quick dinner at Sonic,
made a couple other stops - including, possibly, getting our shot glass - and then back to the hotel for some sleep.
